Conviction | 2020 #6

I was sold immediately when I read the plot of Conviction by Denise Mina. True crime podcast. Secret past. Boats. Europe. That’s really all you need to get me to read a book.

This book begins with a woman (Anna) finding out that her husband is leaving her for another woman, but that’s the least emotionally taxing thing for her that day. She has started to listen to a true crime podcast and recognizes a name of someone she once knew – someone who has died mysteriously.

Anna begins a quest to learn more about this mystery – and avoid being hurt herself – all in the company of the man whose wife left him for Anna’s husband. She is guided by both a past she’d tried desperately to forget and this new true crime podcast.

I really enjoyed the plot of this book, but I wasn’t the biggest fan of the writing style (which, I recognize was an intentional choice of the author). There are a few things that I think could have moved the plot along a little quicker, but overall I’d recommend.
